I participated in a journaling circle last year that centered around Mary Oliver's The Summer Day. We were to write for 5 minutes about anything that struck us from the poem. For me, it was the words "I don't know how to pay attention." What came out of that writing was the awareness that I do know how to pay attention and in those moments my life comes alive. And there's that word again ... "alive."
