Day 13: Let Go
Solstice Journey 2020
Day 13: December 16
Solstice marks both an ending and a beginning. It seems that both/and is a theme that I return to over and over. Darkness and light. Creation and destruction. Sorrow and joy. Birth and death.
In today’s practice, I invite you to explore what is ending, what it is time to let go. I know the end of the year brings lots of encouragement to wrap up this year and set goals for the next. And if you are ready to do that, you go! But if you need permission to take it slowly, I’m handing you a permission slip. I think it will take some time for me to digest this year, and maybe a little distance. In any case, keeping with yesterday’s theme, rest if you need to before you are ready to sort it out.
Still, it’s possible to begin to sense what wants to fall away. Without adding pressure to figure it all out, make space for the question today: What is ending? What is it time to let go?
I like to use oracle cards to help me see what I may be missing. For me they are another portal to inspiration and wisdom. I drew a card for us from a favorite deck to illuminate the question of what is ending. I drew the card Diligence, which is pictured below. I’ll include the author’s description of the card below, and you can also just look at the picture to see if there is a message there for you. One I see is the bird’s eye or long view, which might mean letting some of the minutiae fall away. Take what resonates for you and leave the rest.
Diligence: Fallow Field
Traditionally, fields were left fallow–unfarmed–for extended periods of time to allow the soil to recover and rebalance its nutrients, to break disease and pest cycles, and to provide a haven for wildlife. Letting fields lie fallow meant that the subsequent crops were much healthier and more vibrant. Engaging in this time-honored process takes patience and diligence, but the results are worth the wait.
The Sacred Landscape Wants You to Know: There are times in life to step forward and take risks, but there are other times to be patient, step carefully and slowly, and know that the benefits you will gain in the future will be worth it. Be attentive, meticulous, and persistent. Use this time to plan for action steps in the future. Be diligent and consistent at each step as you move forward. By doing so, you will harvest remarkable results in the years ahead. This is not the time for instant gratification. Your diligence will pay off in the future, tenfold. This is the time for deliberate organization. Clean house. Clear clutter out of your life. Be thoughtful about how you spend your time, and be discerning when choosing with whom you spend it. Clear out relationships that do not support you.
